1 Reviews on “Dharohar Cottages, Himachal Pradesh”
We made our initial booking for only four days at Dharohar Cottages and continued to stay here for close to four years! This in itself is the biggest testimonial of this beautifully designed homestay and its warmest hosts. Staying here, you get spectacular views of the snow-covered Dhauladhar mountain peaks, and spot birds such as hornbills, parrots, maina, and many other green, purple, and yellow unique ones right from your patio. The spacious lawns, gazebo, and terraces make for a good walk, sun basking, and star gazing. The nearby river makes for amazing sound effects at night when everything else quietens out. Nature inspired us to keep exploring and calmness motivated us to flourish the digital nomad in us.
The hosts are awesomely responsive and go out of their way to make you comfortable. Be it Munish Rana or his parents, all of them are always accessible and make sure that the guests and their needs are taken care of. They also generously offer farm produce and give you a taste of Himachali authentic food, home-cooked to perfection.
How was our stay at Dharohar Cottages?
We loved living in well-ventilated cottages that give us ample space, natural light and met all our needs – a double bed, storage for our luggage, working tables for both of us, a sitting area with beautiful views, running hot water, and a functional kitchen to make our own meals. Other facilities at the property such as power backup, and Wifi ensured our work continuity.
Our requests were promptly responded to such as refilling the gas cylinder, changing of bulbs, extra linens, or utensils. Our comfort as guests of Dharohar cottages was of prime focus and that indeed made us feel special and welcomed.
Invitations by our hosts to impromptu evening bonfires, changotra (local citrus food) eating session on sunny afternoons, drives/hikes, community festival celebrations, and Dhams (Himachali buffet at social gatherings) were some of the high points that allowed us to integrate with the local culture and connect with the people even more. To top it all, the conversations and discussions with the Rana Family all throughout our stay have created bonds that would last a lifetime.
What we did while living at Dharohar Cottages?
The property is located close enough to a lot of action and yet far enough not to get disturbed by the hustle and bustle. While our focus was to continue our remote work choices, there was always something to explore during our breaks. We enjoyed our morning/evening nature walks and hikes or just sitting on our patio to soak in the mountain views, sunsets and watch colourful unique birds.
Quite a few nearby monasteries were our frequent visiting spots such as Khampagar Monastery at Tashi Jong and Bhattu Monastery. They were indeed peaceful to visit and while there, we could not miss out on grabbing the Tibetan delicacies such as momos and thukpas along with hot ginger lemon tea at the local restaurants dotted next to these monasteries.
It was fantastic how some popular tourist spots, and some not so commonly known gems were within our reach at Dharohar Cottages. We managed to visit the Taragarh heritage site, Andretta artists’ village, Sobha Singh art gallery, ancient Baijnath temple, Bir Billing paragliding site, tea gardens at Palampur, and many more places. In fact, Bir and Palampur became our go-to places for coffee breaks, and breakfast or lunch outings as both these places have many restaurants and cafes that give a chance to explore a different menu on every trip. These are the perks of a long stay – you can visit the same place and explore it fully on multiple visits.
Our verdict
If you are in Baijnath/ Palampur Area, look no further. This homestay amidst the organic farms and enormous Himalayas could be your abode in nature, and you would definitely want to come back here for Himachali hospitality and more.
